The history of Ílhavo is closely linked to the cod fishing industry. Join us on a journey through Ílhavo’s most emblematic sites, from the Cod Aquarium to the enchanting Costa Nova beach.
Our journey begins in the salt marshes of Aveiro, a fundamental element in the conservation of cod.
We’ll visit the Ílhavo Maritime Museum and its cod aquarium. Then we’ll go to the Santo André Museum Ship, a cod boat that belonged to the old national fishing fleet.
On the way we’ll stop at the old cod drying area and the cod fishermen’s wharf.
The itinerary wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Barra beach to see the iconic lighthouse. Lunch will be taken at the Costa Nova beach, with its colourful striped houses.
The tour ends with a visit to the Vista Alegre Factory, Here you can visit the museum and stroll through the narrow streets of the district.
