Join us on a journey through the history, culture, and flavours of cod in the Aveiro region. Come and discover how cod became the “faithful friend” of the Portuguese while enjoying a personalised and unforgettable gastronomic experience in Aveiro.
We’ll start by visiting the salt pans, as salt is an essential ingredient in the curing of cod.
Next, we’ll visit the Santo André Museum Ship, a cod trawler that belonged to the Portuguese fishing fleet. It is an important testament to the “faina maior,” the name given to cod fishing. A visit to this cod trawler will help you understand the historical and cultural importance of cod fishing in Portugal.
You’ll have time to relax at Praia da Barra and the picturesque Praia da Costa Nova, with its striped houses.
The tour ends with an informal lunch in a private house in the centre of Aveiro. You will enjoy a variety of typical cod dishes, prepared in the same way as they were on the cod trawlers.
We promise a truly unique experience where you can savour local cod dishes unique to the Aveiro region and socialise with your hosts at the same time. If you have any questions, the hosts will be happy to answer them!
